Pre-Landfall 2 | Summary
Posting Date: July 7, 2000, 10:00:00 AM
As of 1400 EDT, Friday, July 7, 2000, Typhoon Kirogi is located about 110 miles south of Tokyo, Japan. The storm's forward speed has increased to almost 30 mph. Kirogi is now a minimal Category 1 typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and gusts of up to 100 mph. The system is expected to continue to weaken as it moves into an environment of increased vertical wind shear.
Typhoon Kirogi is forecast to make landfall, either as a minimal Category 1 typhoon or as a tropical storm, along the coast near Tokyo within the next several hours. Because landfall is so imminent, AIR will make the full ALERT posting, including landfall scenarios and event sets, after landfall. These will be available to both CATRADER and CATMAP clients.
