Typhoon Bavi made a double landfall in China's Zhejiang province late on Saturday, July 11, first near Yuhuan City around 11:20pm local time with maximum sustained winds of 144 km/h (89 mph), then a second landfall less than an hour later near Yueqing City, before weakening to a tropical storm as it tracked northwest into Anhui province. More than 2 million people were evacuated across the affected regions, the majority in Zhejiang province.  Shanghai evacuated over 290,000 people from at-risk areas, while Fujian province evacuated more than 180,000 people. In Yueqing, the storm felled more than 1,300 trees, about half of them torn out from the root, and flood waters rose to about half the height of a car tire, with emergency crews using chainsaws and excavators to clear waterlogged, tree-strewn streets. Coastal residents described roof tiles and branches falling and homes flooding overnight as the storm came ashore.

The disruption extended heavily into transportation and daily life. In Hangzhou, two major train stations suspended all services and 327 flights were canceled at Xiaoshan International Airport, while in Shanghai a total of 1,620 train trips and 684 flights were canceled, and Shanghai's two main airports were expected to cancel roughly 653 additional inbound and outbound flights. Small businesses along the coast also took direct hits — one shop owner in the fishing town of Kanmen described collapsed metal canopy frames and a blown-out window, estimating several thousand yuan in damage to his property alone. Bavi will continue to dump heavy torrential rain across Jilin, Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Anhui in the following days, compounding flood risk in areas already saturated from earlier rain, with one county in Hebei recording nearly 190 mm (7.5 inches) of rainfall in about a day.
