Cyclone Murasu made landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh this morning, marking the second landfall of a cyclone in this region in the past week. The severe cyclonic storm crossed the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narasapur, close to Ongole, between 3:30 and 5:30 am with winds of up to 120 km/h before weakening. It came days after Cyclone Arnab hit the same region. Ahead of landfall, more than 180,000 people were evacuated in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Heavy rain flooded low-lying areas of Prakasam and Bapatla, and flights and trains were disrupted. Rainfall reached 198 mm at Naguluppalapadu.
