Update May 19 | Summary
Posting Date: May 19, 2026, 12:00:00 PM
The Sandy Fire is currently estimated at 1,386 acres, in some of the same areas of Ventura County impacted by the Woolsey Fire in 2018. Firefighting continued overnight and as of a press release Tuesday morning, CAL FIRE indicated that firefighters had made “significant progress with very little fire growth observed”. Evacuations continue in Simi Valley, where one home was destroyed yesterday. Santa Ana winds are forecast to return this morning; however, they are not forecast to be as strong as yesterday, and firefighters are in position to deal with the impacts as they arise. Winds are forecast to die down in the afternoon into the evening again, and the forecast for tomorrow from the National Weather Service shows lower winds overall than are forecast for today.
The Verisk team will continue to monitor the Sandy Fire and will provide further updates as warranted.
