Note: This communication is relevant only for those participating in the DyGIST stress test.
The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), part of the Bank of England, is running the Dynamic General Insurance Stress Test (DyGIST) May 5-27, 2026.
If you or your organisation are not participating in this exercise, you may ignore this message. The events in this stress test are simulated, they do not represent actual events occurring at present.

UK windstorm
Verisk have reviewed the PRA DyGIST Scenario inject today with an updated view on UK windstorm Nevis. The storm has impacted large areas including London and Birmingham with maximum recorded gusts exceeding 100mph and industry loss estimates of £11-15b.
The event has had minimal precipitation, no reports of damage from inland surface water or riverine flooding and isolated coastal flooding that has not been a material source of damage.
Based on the above inject today, two SSEs (Similar Stochastic Events) previously provided on May 7th 2026 match well. These SSEs are valid for Touchstone v9 and later:
- Event ID 57556; v13 total industry loss £18.6b; UK Only industry loss £11.1b
- Event ID 85607; v13 total industry loss £19.3b; UK Only industry loss £14.5b
The guidance requests participants to report the impact on their UK portfolio. Hence, we recommend users filter UK exposure only – both for loss estimates and accumulation results.
Shapefiles of wind footprints for these SSEs which can be used for accumulation purposes can be found on the ALERT portal in the May 7 2026 download page here.
Unlike the Pacific Northwest earthquake and Hurricane Taurus injects last week, the inject for Windstorm Nevis today does NOT conclude with “End of Event”.
Template reporting
Post Loss Amplification
The excel reporting template asks for the percentage of total gross loss due to post loss amplification. Verisk produces loss estimates for Demand Surge, the short-term increase in labour and materials prices after a catastrophe. Users can run demand surge on and off to estimate the percentage impact for each SSE. Alternatively, we have provided the impacts based on industry losses across the model region from Touchstone Re. Please note impacts can differ for your portfolio, especially outside Europe (incl UK). In Europe, demand surge factors are precomputed for each event.
- For the UK windstorm Nevis events – Touchstone v9 and later:
- 57556: 7.0%
- 85607: 8.4%
- For the Hurricane Taurus SSEs– Touchstone v9 and later:
- 193685: 28.5%
- 205454: 32.3%
- For the Pacific Northwest earthquake - Touchstone version 12 and 13:
- 66137: 36.1% for US and Canada combined
Secondary uncertainty
The excel reporting template asks for the percentage of total gross loss due to secondary uncertainty. In the supplementary document “DyGIST 2026 – Questions and Answers” there is an answer to Question 12 as to how firms could get a proportion of the loss from secondary uncertainty. It states “… Depending on the model, it might be appropriate to quantify this using a toggle within a model or as the standard deviation of (say) a beta distribution being used.”
Users can extract standard deviation from the SQL back tables. The ByEvent table will contain the standard deviation around all perspectives that you chose to save for these events. This information will also be stored in more granular tables depending on how you saved the analysis – for example, the ByLocation table if you chose to save the analysis by location.
In Touchstone’s Financial Module it is not possible to run detailed loss analyses such as SSEs and turn secondary uncertainty off (i.e. running analyses deterministically).
Casualty:
For the Hurricane Taurus scenario we will shortly be releasing estimates to liability lines focusing on the sectors potentially exposed to litigation. Please contact casualtycatsupport@verisk.com for further details.
Next update:
Our next DyGIST update will be on Thursday May 14th 2026. Please contact Shane Latchman, Joe Cleveland and Maeve Sweetnam or otherwise your Verisk representative, with any questions.
