Posting Date: May 5, 2026, 11:00:00 AM
Note: This communication is relevant only for those participating in the DyGIST stress test.
The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), part of the Bank of England, is running the Dynamic General Insurance Stress Test (DyGIST) May 5-27, 2026.
If you or your organisation are not participating in this exercise, you may ignore this message. The events in this stress test are simulated, they do not represent actual events occurring at present.

Verisk have reviewed the PRA DyGIST Scenario inject today and are releasing the following deliverables.
Pacific Northwest earthquake: This scenario is the same as the Lloyd’s EDS (Extreme Disaster Scenario) which Verisk previously worked with Lloyd’s on. The event is a magnitude 9.34 megathrust earthquake including tsunami on the Cascadia Subduction Zone.
The Similar Stochastic event ID, as contained in the Lloyd’s EDS documentation is:
- 66137 - Touchstone version 12 and 13
- 62023 - Touchstone version 10, 11 and 11.5
The modelled insured industry loss of this event in Touchstone Re version 13 is USD 461 billion.
Shapefiles of the event footprints will be posted shortly to the ALERT landing page for this event.
The scenario specifies scaling gross losses down to 40% of their original value. In Touchstone, users can run Loss Modification Factors though note well that these scale ground up losses, not gross. If users would like to directly scale gross losses these can be done by applying SQL update scripts to the loss table or scaling the losses outside the software.

U.S. hurricane: The scenario, called Hurricane Taurus, is a category 5 hurricane scheduled to make landfall on the southeast coast of Florida this evening.
From the forecast provided, Verisk have filtered landfalls with the following criteria:
- Expected to make landfall in the region indicated in the forecast
- Impacts both the Caribbean (namely Bahamas) and Florida
- Radius of maximum winds up to 25 miles
- Forward speed up to 25 mph
- Central pressure up to 920 mb
- Sustained winds more than 160 mph
The Verisk team have identified four similar stochastic event IDs (SSEs):
|
Event ID |
V13 Industry Loss – Total (USD billions) |
Notes |
V13 Industry Loss – Florida Only (USD billions) |

Makes landfall in Mexico, slightly South of expected landfall. Also has landfall in Texas. |

134 |
Slightly South of expected landfall and 2nd landfall in Alabama. |

Small Rmax and very low central pressure. 2nd landfall in Texas. |

Forward speed above 25mph and 2nd landfall in Louisiana. |

Figure 1: Map of the selected Similar Stochastic Event IDs for “Taurus” (SSEs)
Note well that each of the selected events may have other impacts outside of the currently forecasted landfall area on the southeast coast of Florida. Given the large degree of uncertainty in the present forecast, a range of outcomes are provided herein. We will narrow this range further as the storm continues to approach the coast of Florida.
Footprints (TIFF files) of the windspeed and storm surge for each SSE are on the ALERT landing page for this event. These map layers can be directly imported into Touchstone Geospatial for accumulation purposes.

UK windstorm: The UK windstorm Nevis is forecasted to traverse across the UK on Friday morning. Since no hazard information has yet been provided, no SSEs have been selected.
If further information is provided by the PRA on Thursday, Verisk will release SSEs for the Nevis event shortly after.
***
Casualty: Verisk are investigating releasing Casualty loss estimates relating to this exercise from the Verisk Casualty Catastrophe Model for the scenarios above. Further information will be provided later this week.
Our next DyGIST update will come on Thursday, May 7th. Please contact Shane Latchman, Joe Cleveland and Maeve Sweetnam or otherwise your Verisk representative, with any questions.
